Program Delivery Process with Schools

Our Approach

At The Pasty Box, we believe in the power of hands-on learning to inspire children and create lasting change. By working closely with schools, we ensure that our program reaches those who will benefit most, equipping them with essential cooking skills and promoting healthier lifestyles.

Our program is more than just cooking—it’s about empowering children, fostering family connections, and creating a positive ripple effect within the community. Here’s how we make it happen:

Collaborate with schools to identify children to work with

We collaborate with each school to identify a group of 6 students who will benefit most from our program. These students will participate in hands-on cooking sessions designed to build essential life skills, confidence, and a love for nutritious food.

Session 1: Make and Bake pasties from scratch

In the first session, students learn how to prepare and bake traditional pasties. Each child will take their homemade pasty home, offering a sense of accomplishment and pride in creating their own meal.

Benefit: This first experience introduces children to basic cooking techniques and helps foster independence and self-esteem through hands-on learning.

Provide Family Ingredient Boxes During School Holidays

At the following school holiday, each participating child will receive a box filled with ingredients to make pasties for their entire family at home. Additionally, these ingredient boxes will be available for all students in the school to purchase, creating a broader impact across the community.

Benefit: The take-home boxes provide children and their families with an opportunity to cook and enjoy a meal together, reinforcing the skills learned and promoting family bonding over healthy food.

Provide Half-Termly Cooking Sessions for the rest of the year

Every half term, we reconnect with the same group of students to prepare a different nutritious meal. After each session, students will take home an ingredient box with everything needed to recreate the meal for their families.

Benefit: This ongoing support reinforces cooking skills, introduces students to diverse, balanced meals, and provides continual learning that builds on previous sessions.
